Currently, significant progress has been achieved in understanding the patterns of development of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other demyelinating diseases, etiology and pathogenetic mechanisms of their development. Achievements in experimental neurology, neurophysiology, clinical immunology and genetics, standardization of diagnostic approaches, active introduction into everyday practice of highly informative instrumental methods for examining patients, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), accumulation and systematization of vast clinical experience, have opened a new era in the treatment of this difficult diseases, significantly improving the prognosis and improving the quality of life of patients. Currently, beta-interferons and glatiramer acetate remain the first choice methods of pathogenetic treatment of MS from the group of drugs modifying the course of multiple sclerosis (MSITS). Domestic biosimilars of original drugs are being actively introduced, which increases the availability of this expensive long-term treatment. There are new drugs registered in Russia, which have significantly expanded the capabilities of neurologists in the treatment of various forms of demyelinating pathology (fingolimod, natalizumab, teriflunomide, lachinimod, and others). The possibilities of symptomatic treatment and rehabilitation have significantly expanded.

All this requires from the neurologists dealing with this problem, additional knowledge in various fields necessary for early differential diagnosis and the selection of individual therapy. Therefore, professional communities of MS researchers have been organized in all regions of the world, working in close collaboration with professional organizations of neurologists - the societies of neurologists. The European and North American committees already have many years of experience, such committees have been created in Asia, Australia and Oceania, in Central and South America (ECTRIMS, ACTRIMS, PACTRIMS and LACTRIMS), committees in individual countries. The Russian Committee for Researchers of Multiple Sclerosis (РОКИРС or RUCTRIMS) was created in 2010 with the support of the All-Russian Society of Neurologists, officially registered in 2012. In 2013, from 11 to 13 September, Kazan hosted the First RUCTRIMS Congress "Demyelinating Diseases and Neuroinfections, Diagnostic and Therapy Issues", organized by the All-Russian Society of Neurologists and a public organization of researchers of multiple sclerosis (MS). This congress, held in Kazan, was attended by 450 neurologists, including more than 50 representatives of foreign countries - world famous neurologists, heads of MS clinics from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Great Britain, Switzerland, Turkey, Iran, USA, Canada and other countries. MS experts gave presentations to the congress participants. The educational course held on the first day of the congress and dedicated to the memory of two of the largest neurologists, authors of the diagnostic criteria for MS, Charles Poser and In MacDonald, was of great importance. Both of these well-known neurologists have come to Russia more than once, delivered lectures, and took part in the work of All-Russian congresses and conferences. Therefore, the educational course of the First RUCTRIMS Congress in Kazan was held in memory of these famous neuroscientists.

In 2012 and 2014, meetings of the ROKIRS Executive Committee were held in St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl, which served as the basis for thematic conferences on this issue. In 2015, the Second RUCTRIMS Congress was held in memory of Professor Donald Paty (1936-2004). The Congress was attended by 30 leading neurologists, MS experts from 16 countries of the world and more than 500 neurologists from Russia.

We invite all neurologists to take an active part in RUCTRIMS work!
